Pillars of the Community: The Kenton

Established in 2021, the Pillars of the Community campaign aims to shine a spotlight on the unsung heroes and cornerstones of our local community. Our streets are filled with organisations that strive to provide positive contributions to their local areas, and make up the essential fabric of our communities. We aim to shine our Pillars of the Community spotlight upon the longstanding institutions, beloved businesses and outstanding charities that fill East London, and beyond.

In this episode, we sat down with Egil, the landlord of the much-loved, iconic yellow pub- The Kenton.

The Kenton is best described as a traditional British pub with a Scandinavian twist.  Egil took charge of The Kenton in 2009, and it has since become an infamous Homerton hotspot, which is known and loved across the city of London. Hackney’s Scandi pub has received a swath of awards over the years, not only winning TimeOut London’s “Best Pub in Hackney” award multiple times but also receiving the prestigious title of “Most Loved Pub in London’ in 2015. We talked with Egil about the pub’s rich character, community and navigating the London hospitality industry.
